Agartala: April 19: In a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition, the first-ever Barsha Baran and Baul Festival was held at Jagannathpur Bazar on Friday evening, thanks to the initiative of Sudhangshu Das, MLA of Fatikroy Legislative Assembly and Minister of Animal Resources Development and Scheduled Castes Welfare Department.
The festival marked a colorful welcome to the Bengali New Year 1432, blending art, music, and social awareness in a unique and meaningful way. The evening began with a melodious performance by artists from Saptasur Music Academy, whose soulful renditions captivated the audience and set the tone for a night rich in cultural spirit.
In his welcome address, social activist Kushal Das emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, noting its power to strengthen community ties and uphold shared traditions. His words resonated with the crowd, underlining the value of such events in today’s fast-paced world.
The highlight of the evening was the performance by five Baul artists from across the state, who mesmerized the audience with their passionate and spiritual folk music. Their songs celebrated the deep-rooted folk traditions of Bengal, infusing the event with authenticity and emotional depth.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das spoke about the significance of traditional festivals such as Gramin Charak, Biju Utsav, Bihu, and Baishu, emphasizing their role in sustaining the agrarian culture and uniting diverse communities. He urged the youth to take active interest in such cultural celebrations to keep these traditions alive.
While celebrating the festive spirit, the Minister also expressed concern over the plight of Hindu families in Murshidabad affected by violence. He called for solidarity and collective support to ensure justice and peace, blending festivity with a heartfelt social message of unity and resilience.
