Lok Sabha MP from West Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the expansion and modernization of Tripura’s railway infrastructure. The meeting focused on enhancing connectivity, accelerating ongoing projects, and introducing new services to better integrate Tripura with the rest of the country.

Deb put forward several significant proposals, including the double-laning of the Lumding–Sabroom and Agartala–Sabroom rail lines to increase capacity and reduce travel time. He also called for the introduction of electric trains to make the railway system more efficient and environmentally sustainable. One of the standout demands was the launch of a Vande Bharat Express from Tripura to Guwahati, which would offer high-speed connectivity to the northeastern region.

To further strengthen long-distance travel options from Tripura, Deb proposed new express train routes including Agartala–Jammu, Agartala–Puri, and Agartala–Gaya Express services. These would significantly enhance mobility for passengers traveling to northern, eastern, and central India.

The MP also discussed the modernization of key railway stations—Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur—under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He emphasized transforming Agartala Railway Station into a world-class facility with modern amenities and design.

Other key issues raised included the creation of an industrial railway link, upgradation of the Jirania yard, and new rail services to improve both passenger and freight movement in the state.

Following the meeting, Deb stated on social media that Minister Vaishnaw appreciated the proposals and assured that all necessary steps would be taken promptly to support Tripura’s development through improved railway infrastructure.
