Agartala: Oct 30: Biplab Kumar Deb has formally addressed concerns to Amit Shah regarding the international border between Tripura and Bangladesh, which stretches a total of 856 km. While significant portions of this border have been fenced, approximately 26.64 km remains unfenced. It has been confirmed that there are no land acquisition issues hindering the completion of border fencing in this remaining area; however, the progress of the construction agencies in addressing this issue has been notably slow.

Additionally, the existing border fencing, erected years ago, is in a dilapidated and rusting state due to inadequate maintenance. Given the current disturbed law and order situation in Bangladesh, there is a heightened risk that vested interests may exploit the porous nature of this border.

In light of these concerns, Deb has urged the relevant authorities to expedite the completion of fencing in the remaining areas and to renovate the old border fence where necessary. While proactive measures by the Central Government have effectively mitigated infiltration risks thus far, it is apparent that the strength of the Border Security Force (BSF) requires enhancement to ensure more robust border protection. This reinforcement is critical to prevent any negative repercussions stemming from the instability in Bangladesh on the security situation in Tripura.

The urgency of these measures cannot be overstated, as ensuring the integrity and security of the border is essential for maintaining peace and order in the region.
