The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested former judge Giribala Singh in connection with the alleged dowry death case of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, and later took her for a medical examination at the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) campus in Bhopal.

According to sources, a special medical camp had been arranged at the MANIT campus for the procedure, with prior approval granted by the Madhya Pradesh Police. An ambulance was also seen arriving at the campus during the medical examination process.

The arrest came a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh in the high-profile case. Earlier in the day, a CBI team accompanied by heavy police deployment reached her residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal at around 10:30 a.m. Officials questioned her for nearly seven hours before formally placing her under arrest.

CBI officials also visited the residence of Principal District Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastava in Bhopal to officially inform him about the arrest. Sources said officers carried legal and arrest-related documents during the visit.

The investigating agency is expected to produce Giribala Singh before a court on Friday.

The case relates to the death of Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her matrimonial home on May 12, nearly five months after her marriage to Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. Her death was initially reported as a case of alleged suicide, but allegations of dowry harassment soon emerged.

On Wednesday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court, in a detailed 17-page order, observed that WhatsApp chats and statements recorded from Twisha’s family indicated that the allegations were not confined only to her husband. The court also took note of claims that Twisha was allegedly pressured to terminate her pregnancy, adding that the termination of pregnancy was an admitted fact in the matter.

Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, who was arrested from Jabalpur on May 22, was remanded to CBI custody on Wednesday. The investigation is continuing, with the agency examining the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death and the allegations of harassment and dowry-related abuse.
