The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested retired judge Giribala Singh in connection with the death case of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma. The arrest came a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court revoked the anticipatory bail that had earlier protected Singh from being taken into custody.

According to official sources, the High Court set aside the order passed by a Bhopal sessions court on May 15, which had granted Giribala Singh interim relief shortly after an FIR was registered in the case. Following the cancellation of bail, the CBI proceeded with her arrest as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged dowry death.

Twisha Sharma was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home earlier this month. The case quickly drew attention due to allegations of dowry harassment and cruelty by members of her husband’s family. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances leading to her death and the allegations made by her family members.

Giribala Singh has been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Dowry Prohibition Act. The charges include Section 80(2), which relates to dowry death, and Section 85, dealing with cruelty by the husband or his relatives. She has also been charged under Section 3(5), which pertains to criminal acts committed with common intention.

The arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile case, which has attracted public and legal attention in Madhya Pradesh. Officials said the CBI is continuing to gather evidence, record statements, and examine digital communications connected to the investigation.

Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, had earlier been arrested in connection with the same case. Investigators are reportedly examining allegations related to harassment, domestic cruelty, and pressure allegedly exerted on the victim during her marriage.

Legal experts believe the High Court’s decision to cancel anticipatory bail reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a detailed investigation. The CBI is expected to produce Giribala Singh before the court and seek further custody for questioning as the probe progresses.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities stating that all aspects of the case are being examined carefully.
