Political tensions in the headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) erupted into violence late Tuesday, leaving three TIPRA Motha supporters critically injured and the local BJP office completely gutted.

According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation began near a park in Khumulwng when a heated argument broke out between workers of TIPRA Motha and the BJP. The situation escalated rapidly, with three Motha supporters allegedly assaulted with bricks. The injured were immediately rushed to Khrengbari Hospital, where doctors confirmed that all three had sustained severe head injuries.

In a swift and furious retaliation, enraged TIPRA Motha supporters allegedly marched towards the BJP party office. The newly decorated office was set ablaze, reducing furniture, documents, and political materials to ashes. Portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, and Dr B. R. Ambedkar were also destroyed in the fire. BJP workers present at the office reportedly fled as the mob advanced.

Police personnel from Radha Kishore Nagar station reached the location but were unable to prevent the destruction. This incident marks the second attack on the BJP office in Khumulwng within a span of two months, both allegedly carried out by TIPRA Motha supporters.

The violence has intensified political unease in the region. BJP leaders have accused TIPRA Motha workers of repeatedly targeting their cadres despite both parties being coalition partners in Tripura’s state government. Former MoS Pratima Bhoumik had earlier expressed similar concerns, alleging that BJP workers were increasingly becoming victims of political hostility.

Following the clash, senior TIPRA Motha leaders—including MLA Biswajit Koloi, MDC Ganesh Debbarma, and youth leader Suraj Debbarma—visited the hospital late at night to meet the injured supporters, urging for peace but reaffirming the need to protect their workers’ safety.
