Agartala, April 5: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today paid a surprise visit to IGM Hospital and Agartala Government Dental College, where he directed all staff and doctors to ensure uninterrupted patient care. During the visit, he interacted with doctors and health staff, stressing the importance of addressing any shortcomings in service delivery.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, acknowledged that IGM Hospital, located in the heart of Agartala, is an old facility that handles a large number of patients. While he praised the dedication of the doctors and health workers for providing quality services despite heavy workloads, he pointed out issues such as cleanliness problems and a lack of awareness among the relatives of patients. He stressed that these problems need to be addressed, and the hospital should learn from the corporate sector’s best practices to improve efficiency.
Dr. Saha also noted that despite challenges, IGM Hospital has seen significant improvements over time. He commended the Medical Superintendent for his active involvement in managing the hospital and personally inspected the infrastructure, including the seating areas, to assess the condition of the hospital.
In addition to visiting IGM Hospital, the Chief Minister also toured the Agartala Government Dental College to review its functioning. He checked whether staff members were punctual and assessed the types of patients seeking treatment. Dr. Saha emphasized that his surprise visit was intended to identify and resolve any issues, ensuring that the hospitals provide 100 percent service to the public. He assured that necessary guidelines and initiatives would be introduced to address these challenges, with a focus on improving cleanliness, patient awareness, and overall service quality in the government health sector.
