Agartala, Nov 3 — Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure, setting an ambitious goal to place Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) among the top 10 medical institutions in India.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for several infrastructure projects at AGMC and GBP Hospital, Dr. Saha — who also holds the Health portfolio — said the initiatives aim to expand the reach and quality of healthcare services in the state. The projects include a Critical Care Building (CCB), a Communicable Disease Center (CDC), a 20-bed special ward at GBP Hospital, and an Inter Departmental Call Management System (IDCMS).

Dr. Saha emphasized the need to enhance doctors’ skills and confidence, urging them to uphold medical excellence. “GB Hospital, TMC Hospital, and other district hospitals are performing well. However, we have information about brokers misleading patients to outside hospitals — strict action will be taken against them,” he warned.

Highlighting progress in medical services, he said eight hip replacements and several knee replacements have already been performed in Tripura. “Nine super specialties have been launched at AGMC at a cost of ₹250 crore, and four more services will be added soon. I met the Union Health Minister regarding additional allocations, and he assured central support for equipment procurement,” he added.

Dr. Saha further announced that the DoNER Ministry has sanctioned ₹192 crore for constructing a Mother and Child Care Building, and another ₹202 crore for the Dental College infrastructure.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, ONGC Asset Manager Sanjeev Kumar Janjua, Director of Medical Education Dr. H.P. Sharma, and other senior officials attended the ceremony, reaffirming the state’s collective push toward achieving healthcare excellence.
