Agartala, November 5: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Shija Super Speciality Hospital at RK Nagar near Khayerpur, stating that the upcoming facility will play a pivotal role in strengthening Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure.

Dr. Saha said that patients’ trust and confidence largely depend on doctors and urged medical professionals to continuously upgrade their skills to meet modern healthcare challenges. “Despite introducing nine super-speciality services at GBP Hospital with an investment of ₹250 crore, many patients still seek treatment outside the state. Doctors must enhance their expertise to make advanced care accessible within Tripura,” he emphasized.

He lauded Shija Hospital’s achievements, particularly its success in conducting kidney transplants, which he said had “boosted the state’s confidence” in developing high-end medical services.

The Chief Minister informed that the state government has allocated 28 acres of land to Shija authorities for the project, which also includes plans to establish a medical college. The entire project involves an estimated investment of ₹900 crore.

Sharing his recent experience as a keynote speaker at the National Forensic Sciences University in Ahmedabad, Dr. Saha said he proposed to introduce Forensic Odontology in Tripura to enhance forensic identification capabilities.

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development model in Gujarat, Dr. Saha said he has sought collaboration with the Gujarat government to implement similar projects in Tripura, aimed at generating employment for both tribal and non-tribal communities.

The event was attended by MLA and former Speaker Ratan Chakraborty, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Shija CMD Dr. Palin Khundongbam, senior doctors, and officials of the Health Department.
