Agartala, May 2 — Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday underscored the importance of completing urban development projects within stipulated timelines while maintaining high quality standards and ensuring proper post-completion maintenance. He emphasized that regular monitoring and timely delivery of civic services are key to achieving planned urban growth and improving public welfare.

The Chief Minister made these remarks while reviewing the progress of various projects undertaken by the Urban Development Department and urban local bodies at the TIFT War Room in Agartala. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Vaheed A, Director of Urban Development Megha Jain, TUDA Commissioner Mihirkanti Gope, and other senior officials. Department-wise updates on ongoing projects were presented during the session.

Dr. Saha directed officials to expedite works under the Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA) and ensure early completion of the Junction Gate project in Agartala. He also stressed the need to complete the under-construction Lighthouse project near the Akhaura border without delay.

Highlighting the importance of strengthening healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to prioritise the completion of the City Hospital project. He also called for swift installation of CCTV cameras across urban areas to enhance safety and support modernization efforts.

To improve pedestrian safety, Dr. Saha directed the installation of railings along footpaths and emphasized measures to reduce accidents. He also highlighted the significance of the Gomati riverfront development project in Udaipur and stressed regular maintenance of pump houses, including construction of new ones where required.

The Chief Minister instructed uninterrupted implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission and expressed satisfaction that construction of Pink Toilets in 20 urban areas is nearing completion. He also called for preservation of heritage sites, including development of Vivekananda Gymnasium at Gangail Road and construction of an additional ghat in Shantipara.

Focusing on environmental sustainability, he suggested exploring systems for recycling or proper storage of idols after festivals and emphasized regular door-to-door waste collection and efficient solid waste management.

The meeting also reviewed progress under major schemes such as AMRUT 2.0, Smart City Mission, ADB-assisted projects and others, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a modern, well-planned Tripura.
