Kailashahar, Sept 18: The Congress party staged a mass rally at Netaji Corner in Kailashahar on Thursday evening, raising the slogan “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor” (Vote thief, leave the chair). The event marked the party’s first major show of strength in the region since the 2023 Assembly elections and witnessed a strong turnout of supporters.

The rally was attended by senior leaders including Tripura Congress in-charge Christopher Tilak, TPCC president Ashish Saha, MLAs Birajit Sinha and Gopal Roy, district president Md. Badruzzaman, state general secretary Rudrendu Bhattacharjee, and Youth Congress president Neel Ratan Saha.

Addressing the gathering, TPCC chief Ashish Saha launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of “stealing” the 2024 Lok Sabha mandate. He alleged that the victory was secured through manipulation after vote counting was halted for nearly five hours. “Modi did not win with the people’s mandate but by stopping the democratic process,” Saha said, reiterating the party’s claim that the mandate was stolen.

Christopher Tilak also criticized the ruling BJP, accusing the party of neglecting Kailashahar’s development. He pointed out that roads in the district remain broken, schools are short of teachers, and hospitals face a severe shortage of doctors. Tilak alleged that the BJP government has failed to recruit essential staff, leaving the people to suffer. He also held the previous CPI(M) government responsible for failing to address local issues.

The rally, which drew a large crowd of Congress supporters, signaled the party’s renewed efforts to mobilize public opinion against the BJP ahead of upcoming political battles in the state. Party leaders pledged to continue raising people’s issues and intensify their campaign across Tripura.
