A police constable posted in West Tripura district has been suspended on charges of bribery and misconduct, officials confirmed on Sunday.

The constable, identified as Amir Khan Bhuiya, was placed under suspension by the Superintendent of Police (SP), West Tripura, following serious allegations of extortion and misuse of authority. The suspension order was issued after a group of residents from Fultali, Matinagar, lodged a complaint at Amtali Police Station accusing Bhuiya of collecting money in the name of the SP, West Tripura.

According to police sources, the complainants alleged that the constable had been demanding bribes under false pretenses, thereby tarnishing the image of the department. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the SP initiated disciplinary action and ordered a detailed probe into the matter.

In connection with the incident, a specific criminal case has been registered against the constable and four others under Amtali Police Station Case No. 2025/AMT/111, dated October 26, 2025. The case has been filed under Sections 329(3), 324(3), 117(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.

In addition to the criminal proceedings, a departmental inquiry has been initiated to examine the extent of Bhuiya’s alleged misconduct.

The official order stated: “During the period of suspension, the headquarters of C/1444 Amir Khan Bhuiya of West Tripura District will be at AD Nagar Police Lines under the control of the AC DAR, West Tripura District, and he will abide by the rules and discipline of the department.”

Senior officials assured that strict disciplinary measures will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation to uphold transparency and integrity within the police force.
