A political controversy has surfaced in the Tripura Legislative Assembly following the rejection of multiple questions submitted by Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, a legislator from a ruling alliance partner. Expressing strong dissatisfaction with the decision of the Speaker, the MLA has demanded a review of the rejected questions and announced his intention to bring the matter to the notice of the Governor.

Ahead of the upcoming Assembly session, the process of submitting questions by legislators is underway. In this context, five questions submitted by Ranjit Debbarma were rejected by the Assembly authorities. The MLA has claimed that most of the rejected questions were directly related to tribal interests in the state. Terming the decision as unfortunate and disappointing, he alleged that such actions amount to the suppression of voices representing indigenous communities. He also expressed his anger over the issue through social media posts.

Among the rejected questions were those related to the declaration of a holiday on December 22 in connection with the “Tring” festival, the possible implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), and the number of cases registered in the state under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. According to Debbarma, these were critical issues concerning the rights, safety, and constitutional safeguards of tribal communities.

The MLA asserted that the questions were directly linked to public interest, administrative transparency, and the constitutional framework. He further alleged that elected representatives are being deprived of their democratic right to raise issues of public concern within the Assembly.

In protest against the rejection, Ranjit Debbarma on Friday submitted a written representation to the officiating Speaker of the Assembly, Ram Prasad Pal, demanding reconsideration of the questions. He has also decided to lodge a formal complaint with the Governor and seek an appointment to personally explain the matter. The development has intensified political debate ahead of the forthcoming Assembly session.
