Agartala, Oct 29: Representatives from Dhumacherra Holy Cross School met Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Wednesday to submit a formal memorandum seeking government assistance for the expansion of hostel facilities and construction of a new hostel building to accommodate the increasing number of students.

Established in 1996, Dhumacherra Holy Cross School has long been a pillar of education for children from economically weaker and marginalized communities. Over the years, it has provided quality education and moral guidance to students from remote tribal and rural areas. With notable development initiatives undertaken in 2022, followed by the establishment of a hostel in 2023, the school currently educates around 300 students, of whom 70 are hostel residents.

During the meeting, the school representatives highlighted the urgent need for additional infrastructure, explaining that the existing hostel is operating at full capacity. They emphasized that the proposed expansion would ensure better accommodation, safety, and a more conducive learning environment for students who come from distant villages.

Minister Bikash Debbarma lauded the school’s long-standing contribution to education and its humanitarian approach in uplifting underprivileged sections of society. He acknowledged the importance of improving residential facilities for tribal and rural students, assuring the delegation of full cooperation and necessary departmental support.

“Institutions like Holy Cross School play a vital role in shaping the future of our children, particularly those from economically challenged backgrounds. The government stands ready to assist such initiatives,” Minister Debbarma said.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with optimism that the government’s support will help enhance educational infrastructure in Dhumacherra and empower more students to pursue their academic aspirations in a safe and nurturing environment.
