Agartala: Mar 28: During a speech at Agartala Town Hall on Friday, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar highlighted the historical struggles and current challenges faced by the people of Tripura. The event marked the martyrdom day of Birangana Kumari, Madhuti, and Rupshree Debbarma, with tributes paid by Sarkar, opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury, All India Democratic Women’s Association leader Rama Das, and others.

In his address, Sarkar recounted the dire conditions in Tripura during the early 1950s, referencing the story of Dasharath Debbarma, who, after winning the Lok Sabha elections in 1952, sought recognition in Parliament amidst legal challenges. He also criticized the historical role of the monarchy, alleging exploitation and oppression of the people.

Sarkar emphasized the importance of educating the younger generation about Tripura’s history, urging the Left Front to use history as a guide for progress. He also criticized the current BJP and Tipra Motha governments, accusing them of neglecting issues related to food, clothing, shelter, education, and health. Sarkar argued that governments disconnected from the people ultimately face rejection, citing examples from other regions and countries.

The former Chief Minister called for a renewed commitment to addressing the needs of the oppressed and ensuring that history serves as a foundation for future progress.
