Agartala: Nov 08: On Friday, Manik Sarkar, former Chief Minister of Tripura and a member of the CPI(M) Politburo, visited Kadamtala in North Tripura district, a month after a communal clash erupted in the area on October 6th. Sarkar, accompanied by a delegation of CPI(M) leaders, urged the people of Kadamtala to maintain peace and harmony, emphasizing that “Religion is personal, but the village and the area belong to everyone.” His visit comes amid growing concerns over the handling of the situation by the ruling BJP government, which had remained largely silent on the incident.

Sarkar accused the state government of negligence and mishandling the situation, pointing out the delayed response to the communal clash and the government’s failure to ensure proper law and order. The delegation visited the affected areas, met with victims from both the Hindu and Muslim communities, and inspected the properties damaged in the violence. They also criticized the government for allegedly obstructing opposition parties from visiting the affected areas to assess the situation.

During his visit, Sarkar assured the victims of his support and condemned the violence, which he attributed to the state government’s failure to maintain peace and protect the rights of all citizens. He demanded that the government provide financial assistance to the families who suffered losses and offer a government job to the family of the individual who was killed in the violence.

Sarkar’s visit highlights ongoing concerns over communal tensions in the state and the role of the government in maintaining law and order. The incident in Kadamtala continues to raise questions about the state’s ability to prevent and address communal violence.
