Agartala: August 09: In a significant gesture of solidarity with Tripura’s farming community, Avula Ramesh Reddy, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Crime), Tripura, participated in a paddy transplantation drive at Dudhpushkuni on Saturday. The activity was held on the farmland of Paramananda Sen, a well-known farmer and founder of a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) in the state.
The programme brought together agricultural officials, researchers, and local leaders. Among the participants were Dr. Raju Majumder, Superintendent of Agriculture under the Kakraban Agri Subdivision; Kiran Bhowmik, PhD scholar in Agricultural Economics at Tripura University; and Nabanil Datta, a young farming enthusiast. Local representatives, including the MLA and Zilla Sabhadipati of Gomati District, also joined the farmers in the transplantation process.
Speaking at the event, IGP Reddy highlighted the importance of agriculture, calling it the backbone of the nation. “Farming activities are vital for our country’s growth. The government has taken several steps, including minimum support prices for crops, to ensure farmers’ welfare,” he said.
Expressing his gratitude, Paramananda Sen said, “The participation of senior officials motivates us and validates our hard work. Such encouragement strengthens our dedication to agriculture.”
Kiran Bhowmik underscored the role of rice in the state’s diet and economy. “Rice is the staple food for most people in Tripura. Sustainable growth requires government policies that address farmers’ real needs,” he noted.
The event showcased a strong sense of unity between administrative authorities, agricultural experts, and farmers. Participants agreed that collaborative initiatives like this can significantly enhance productivity, improve livelihoods, and safeguard Tripura’s agricultural future.
This unique convergence of officials and farmers set an example of community-driven agricultural progress in the state.
