Agartala Oct 06: Hours after Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman accused the BJP-led State government of violating land-allotment rules, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury denounced the allegations calling them as ‘False and Misleading’.

Addressing the reporters from the Conference Hall in State Secretariat on Sunday evening, Minister Chowdhury said that Shija Hospital and Research Institute expressed its desire to open a super specialty hospital in Tripura and has been approaching the state government since December 2023.

“In this regard, the policy of the state government is that if any private organization is interested in developing the infrastructure of agriculture, industry, education, health etc. in the state, then the state government will provide them with the required land.

It was in accordance with that announced policy that the State Government started the search for land for allotment of Shija Hospital and Research Institute. Finally, 28 acres of unused land belonging to the Animal Resources Development Department was identified in RK Nagar.

Accordingly, after receiving the No Objection Certificate from the Animal Husbandry Development Department, it was sent to the District Magistrate of West Tripura. From the District Magistrate it will be discussed in the Cabinet through the Revenue Department”, said the Tourism Minister.

Castigating the opposition Congress and MLA Sudip Roy Barman for misleading the people of the state, Chowdhury said, “When a company comes forward with a proposal of investing Rs 900 Crores, that will further develop the infrastructure of the state, the government has to allocate land”.

“I think he (Sudip Roy Barman) was in a hurry to bring allegations against the present government, but he failed to do so. It is not easy to damage the reputation of the government which is working for the overall welfare of the state and its people”, said Chowdhury.

The Tourism Minister further cited a few examples. He said, “Earlier, Cachar Cancer Hospital was given 15 acres of land to set up a hospital in Dharmanagar. Also, ILS Hospital was given land by the previous government”.

On behalf of the state government he also emphasized on the need of investing in the development of health infrastructure in the state.

“There is a need for super specialty hospitals in the state to further reduce the number of out-of-state referral patients. The state government is also working in that direction”, said the minister.

The press conference was also attended by Secretary, Health Department Kiran Gitte.
