Leader of the Opposition and state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Jitendra Chaudhury, on Wednesday alleged that both the ruling parties in the state government and the council administration have failed to meet the expectations of the people. He made the remarks while addressing a party programme at Kalacherra in South Tripura district.

Chaudhury claimed that people across the state are dissatisfied with the current situation, particularly on issues related to development, employment opportunities and protection of democratic rights. He urged voters to support candidates of the Left Front in the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to bring about political change in the council areas.

The CPI(M) leader also criticised the policies and functioning of the council administration led by Tipra Motha Party, alleging that it has failed to address the concerns of the indigenous population and ensure proper development in ADC areas.

Although the official schedule for the TTAADC elections has not yet been announced, the opposition Left Front has already intensified its campaign after releasing a list of its candidates.

A major show of strength by the Left Front was witnessed in the Kalacherra market area under Sabroom subdivision on Wednesday. In support of party-nominated candidates Barjung Tripura and Uchathai Mog, leaders and workers organised a large rally and public meeting in the area.

The programme began from the Kalapania Park area, where a large procession of party supporters carrying red flags marched through the locality up to Kalacherra Hospital. During the rally, participants raised slogans demanding development in ADC areas, protection of democratic values and safeguarding the rights of the people.

Later, a public meeting was held at Kalacherra market where leaders strongly criticised the present political situation and the policies of the council administration.

Among others present at the programme were Sabroom sub-divisional secretary Arun Tripura, former MLA Prabhat Chaudhury, Basudev Majumdar, Sudhan Das and Parikshit Murasingh along with several party leaders, workers and supporters.
