Agartala: Jan 28: Tripura’s Leader of Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, has accused the ruling BJP government of orchestrating the destruction of CPI(M) propaganda materials across Agartala. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Chaudhury voiced his outrage over the alleged vandalism, questioning why the BJP, despite being in power, is so fearful of the CPI(M)’s growing influence. He criticized the party for resorting to undemocratic tactics to obstruct public meetings and suppress opposition voices.

Chaudhury’s remarks come amid rising political tensions ahead of the CPI(M)’s 24th state conference, set for January 29. The conference, which was initially intended to be held at Umakanta Academy ground, was moved to Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan after the government denied permission, citing concerns over disrupting students’ studies. Chaudhury pointed out the irony of this decision, noting that previous events held by the Home Minister at the same location had not been met with similar objections. He accused the BJP of fearing the growing support for CPI(M) and attempting to silence the people’s voice.

Chaudhury also highlighted that campaign materials, including posters and decorations, had been vandalized near his own home, which he saw as a desperate attempt by the BJP to intimidate the opposition. He called on the police to remain impartial and avoid aligning with the ruling party. “The police’s duty is to serve the people, not to wear the BJP’s colors,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for neutrality in law enforcement.

With the CPI(M) conference expected to be a major political event, Chaudhury affirmed that the public meeting would proceed as planned in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, despite attempts to obstruct it. He urged for fair play and a peaceful political environment in the state.
