Agartala, May 2: A Left Front delegation submitted a deputation to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) on Friday, alleging growing authoritarianism and administrative anarchy across Tripura. Following their visit to the police headquarters, the leaders held a press conference at the CPI(M) state office to voice their concerns.

Left Front convenor Manik De highlighted that workers under the Rural Employment Guarantee Act (REGA) were not receiving timely wages despite completing their work. He accused the government of diverting funds and attention away from workers’ movements, claiming that in some cases, wages were being misallocated to political leaders instead of genuine workers. Repeated protests, including gheraos of block offices, have yet to yield results, with many blocks still owing wages.

De also raised alarm over growing unemployment, asserting that while job notifications are released, recruitment processes remain incomplete or delayed, with several advertised posts ultimately being canceled. He linked this inaction to the government’s failure to address over 50,000 reported vacancies across departments.

The Left Front further criticized the administration over worsening social issues, including rising drug abuse, frequent protests over water and electricity shortages, and deteriorating law and order. Reports of daylight thefts, violence against women, and a lack of police action were cited as evidence of systemic failure.

Adding to their grievances, De pointed to the poor quality of newly constructed national highways, plagued by potholes and deemed unfit for traffic. He alleged rampant corruption in public works and accused the BJP-led government of prioritizing propaganda over public welfare.

The delegation concluded by urging immediate intervention to restore order, ensure transparency, and address the growing crisis in governance.
