Imphal: Oct 23: At least six rebels were killed in a gun-battle between two groups of Indian and Myanmar-based militants along the Indo-Myanmar border early on Wednesday morning.

The fierce gun-battle broke out between insurgent groups operating in the Northeastern states of India, and Myanmar-based Kuki National Army (Burma) (KNA-B) and People’s Defence Force – the armed wing of the National Unity Government in Myanmar that was formed in response to the 2021 military coup in the neighbouring country.

The gun-battle ensued between the two groups in Myanmar’s Lalung village bordering Ukhrul district in Manipur.

A report from across the border said that four Manipur’s valley-based insurgents died in the gunfight, while two People’s Defence Force cadres were killed.

The joint team of KNA-B and People’s Defence Force fled the scene when security forces of the military Junta arrived at the spot.

There have also been reports that three People’s Defence Force cadres were killed.

Security forces of the military junta reportedly recovered six sophisticated weapons from the spot.

Reports said that out of the six militants killed, one was later identified as self-styled captain Gulu of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of Manipur.
