Agartala, September 16: Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala, has registered a daily passenger footfall of 4,000 to 4,500, with 34 flight movements (arrivals and departures) on average, making it one of the busiest and most prominent airports in the Northeast.

Addressing media persons on the occasion of Yatri Sewa Diwas, Airport Director KC Meena said, “MBB Airport Agartala has emerged as one of the leading airports of the Northeast with extremely satisfactory ratings from passengers. We rank first in customer satisfaction across the region and 15th at the national level. With more passenger-centric services, we aim to further improve our ranking.”

As part of the day’s celebrations, arriving passengers were welcomed with a traditional teeka ceremony, while cultural programmes, including a Hojagiri dance performance and patriotic songs by the BSF orchestra, added vibrancy. Celebrated gymnast Dipa Karmakar graced the event as the chief guest. A tree plantation drive titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ was launched to encourage community participation. The airport also hosted selfie points, a quiz competition, and a sit-and-draw contest for passengers.

Highlighting recent developments, Meena announced that a modern X-ray system has been installed at MBB Airport, a facility not yet available at Guwahati Airport. Under a CSR initiative, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) funded the construction of a kitchen and dining hall for Ramkrishna Mission School at a cost of ₹58 lakh. A free health check-up camp will also be organised for auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, and daily wagers.

Operational capacity is steadily growing, with a second direct flight to Delhi already introduced. Plans are underway for a new flight to Kolkata, while Air India has shown interest in starting additional services from Agartala, further strengthening connectivity.
