Agartala, Oct 19 — In a strong show of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy on Sunday purchased traditional clay lamps and distributed them among residents of his constituency, urging people to embrace indigenous products during the Diwali and Kali Puja festivities.

Speaking to the media, Minister Roy highlighted the need to empower local artisans, particularly potters who depend on festive seasons for their livelihood. “This is our goal — Vocal for Local. The Prime Minister has urged the nation to adopt indigenous products during Diwali. Our potters are producing beautifully designed earthen lamps that reflect our cultural heritage. I appeal to the people of Tripura to buy and use these locally made items to support our craftsmen,” he said.

Roy’s initiative has been widely appreciated as both a symbolic and practical step toward boosting the local economy and preserving traditional art forms. His outreach aims to raise awareness about sustainable and community-driven consumption.

On the same day, the minister also attended a free health camp organised by Swasti Health Care at the Murticherra Tea Garden under the Chandipur Assembly constituency. The camp offered free medical check-ups and consultations to local residents. During the event, Roy personally distributed clothes to participants and interacted with the beneficiaries.

Praising the organisers, the minister said, “This initiative is truly commendable and inspiring. Serving humanity is the highest form of service. Such community efforts contribute immensely to public welfare.”

The twin initiatives — promoting local artisans and supporting rural healthcare — reflect Roy’s broader commitment to social upliftment and inclusive development in Tripura, especially during the festive season that symbolizes light, compassion, and community harmony.
