In a commendable step toward inclusive healthcare, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has sanctioned ₹22.8 lakh to Tripura Medical College & Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme for 2025–26. The initiative aims to provide free cataract surgeries for 150 patients from economically weaker sections and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, using high-quality intraocular lenses.

The project was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Dr. P. Roy, Chairman of the Society for Tripura Medical College, in the presence of senior NEEPCO officials, including General Manager Khagendra Meitei, and representatives from the TMC administration. The event marked a significant milestone in extending accessible and affordable eye care to marginalized communities.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. A.K. Chakma, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at TMC, said, “This initiative will bring life-changing benefits to 150 underprivileged individuals by providing them with free cataract surgeries. Restoring their vision will not only improve their quality of life but also enable them to live with renewed independence and dignity.”

The collaboration between NEEPCO and Tripura Medical College underscores the importance of corporate partnerships in strengthening public health infrastructure and addressing healthcare disparities. Officials highlighted that CSR-driven projects like this play a crucial role in bridging the gap in medical access, especially in remote and underserved areas.

Screening and selection of eligible patients have already begun, and surgeries are expected to commence shortly. Through this initiative, NEEPCO has once again demonstrated its commitment to community welfare and holistic development, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches those who need it most.
