Agartala: April 03: On Thursday, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for a new Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate in Agartala, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to improving public health services. The hospital will feature a 50-bed urban health center, complete with outpatient departments (OPDs) for various specialties and a minor operation theater (OT). Dr. Saha highlighted that local residents, businesspeople, and visitors to Agartala will benefit from this facility, which aims to reduce the pressure on the existing GB Pant and IGM Hospitals. The hospital’s services will be accessible from 8 AM to 8 PM.
The new health center is strategically located in a central area, making it easily accessible for people across the city. The construction, expected to be completed within six months, will include modern facilities such as a lift and expanded patient care options. Dr. Saha noted that the hospital would be managed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation, drawing inspiration from similar institutions in Mumbai, like Nair Medical College. The site, previously home to the Labour Department office, was chosen after careful consideration for its accessibility and potential benefits to the community.
In addition to the hospital, Dr. Saha shared that the government had recently introduced a mid-day meal service at GB Hospital for patients and their families at a nominal cost of Rs. 10. Financial provisions have also been made in the state budget for the construction of a shelter house. These initiatives reflect the government’s strong focus on enhancing healthcare accessibility for all.
The inauguration was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, and other dignitaries, marking a significant step forward in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
