Agartala, October 2: The Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala distributed new clothes among 175 people in Kalyanpur on Friday as part of a community outreach initiative ahead of the Durga Puja festivities.
The programme was organised at Kalyanpur Bazar Natmandir with the objective of extending the festive spirit to people from economically weaker sections of society.
Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, ATMA Committee Chairman Nitai Bal, Kalyanpur Merchant Association Secretary Asim Deb Roy, office-bearers of the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and other prominent persons attended the programme.
Sarees, dhotis and vests were distributed among the beneficiaries during the event. The recipients expressed happiness at receiving the new clothes ahead of the festive season.
The organisers said the initiative was undertaken to enable families facing financial constraints to participate in the celebrations associated with Durga Puja.
The guests at the programme appreciated the Rotary Club's initiative and highlighted the importance of community participation during festivals.
They said occasions such as Durga Puja provide an opportunity for people to come together and share happiness with different sections of society.
The programme also focused on the role of voluntary and community organisations in undertaking social initiatives and extending support to people who may require assistance.
Durga Puja is widely observed with religious ceremonies, cultural programmes, family gatherings and the tradition of purchasing new clothes. For economically weaker families, however, meeting additional festive expenses can be difficult.
The organisers said the distribution of clothes was intended to provide practical assistance while also conveying a message of solidarity and community support.
They said the initiative reflected the values of compassion and social responsibility associated with community service.
The event brought together local representatives, members of the business community and Rotary Club volunteers, who participated in the distribution programme.
The beneficiaries thanked the organisers for the gesture and said the assistance would add to their festive celebrations.
The organisers maintained that community initiatives during festivals can help strengthen social ties and encourage greater participation in welfare activities.
They said the programme was not limited to the distribution of sarees, dhotis and vests but was also intended to reinforce a sense of inclusion among families from economically weaker sections.
The Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala said it would continue to undertake community-oriented activities aimed at supporting people and promoting social responsibility.
The programme was held ahead of Durga Puja, which is scheduled to be celebrated across Tripura with religious and cultural events.
