Agartala, September 25: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said the life and philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya continue to provide inspiration for building an inclusive society based on the principles of Integral Humanism.
Saha highlighted Upadhyaya’s concept of ‘Antyodaya’, which focuses on the welfare and development of people at the last mile, and said the philosophy remains relevant in efforts to ensure holistic development across society.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a programme organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala to commemorate Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary.
The event commenced with dignitaries offering floral tributes to Upadhyaya’s portrait.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, local corporators and other dignitaries attended the programme.
Recalling Upadhyaya’s life and contribution, Saha described him as a thinker and philosopher whose ideas on Indian society, culture and the welfare of people contributed to the country’s social and political discourse.
Referring again to ‘Antyodaya’, the Chief Minister said Upadhyaya had stressed the need to ensure development reached the most disadvantaged sections of society. He said the principle continues to have relevance and urged people to draw inspiration from his ideals in working for public welfare.
Other speakers at the programme spoke about Upadhyaya’s simple lifestyle, patriotism and organisational abilities, besides highlighting his views on the upliftment of disadvantaged communities.
Party workers, supporters and members of the public also attended the commemorative programme, which concluded with tributes recalling Upadhyaya’s contribution to public life and social thought.
