Agartala: Jan 19: Tensions ran high in the Banshibari area of Charilam Assembly constituency on Sunday when clashes broke out between BJP and Tipra Motha workers during the Mann Ki Baat programme.
The event was organized at the residence of BJP leader Biren Debbarma in Booth No. 3 under the direction of Charilam Mandal.
The violence erupted when Tipra Motha workers, allegedly led by local leader Pandav Debbarma, attacked BJP workers with sticks and dao.
BJP Janajati Morcha district president Kanuraj Debbarma and several others sustained injuries in the attack. Four motorcycles were vandalized, and mobile phones of BJP workers were reportedly destroyed.
The incident prompted immediate intervention by the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer and a large police force to control the situation. Despite police presence, the area remains tense following the clashes.
BJP leaders have filed a formal complaint naming Pandav Debbarma and other accused Tipra Motha workers. According to police sources, two individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.
Reports suggest that similar incidents have occurred in the past, with BJP leaders and workers being unable to conduct events in the Banshibari area due to prior threats and attacks.
The BJP has condemned the attack and demanded strict action against the culprits, while the incident has sparked widespread tension in Charilam. Further investigations are underway.
