Agartala, September 20: Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das on Saturday congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for winning three of the four central posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, saying the outcome indicated growing support among young people for nationalism and the idea of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
In a Facebook Live address, the State Animal Resource Development, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister congratulated ABVP supporters following the election results. Yash Dabas was elected DUSU president, while Riya Chhawdi and Lakshya Raj Singh secured the secretary and joint secretary posts respectively. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s position.
Das said the results were significant because of Delhi University’s diverse student community, which he described as representing a “Mini India”. He interpreted the outcome as a rejection of what he called the “politics of lies” associated with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and as an indication of student support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.
The minister also referred to Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore and questioned its impact among students. He alleged that the Congress and other opposition parties were seeking to influence Gen Z through what he termed “false propaganda”.
Das pointed to the performance of the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which did not win any of the four central posts, while making the broader point that the election results should be viewed in the context of competing political narratives among young voters.
He also criticised Communist parties and other opposition groups, referring to them as “Urban Naxals” and “intellectual Naxals” and alleging that they were working against nationalism and India’s cultural traditions.
Calling on young people to remain alert to what he described as “forthcoming conspiracies and propaganda”, Das invoked Swami Vivekananda while urging the youth to maintain a positive outlook and contribute to nation-building.
The minister concluded by congratulating the newly elected DUSU representatives and expressing hope that they would focus on students’ welfare while contributing to the country’s future.
