A fresh spell of turbulent weather continues to lash South Tripura, as intermittent squalls and heavy rainfall leave a trail of destruction across the district. The intensity of the Nor’wester storm has caused widespread damage, uprooting trees, snapping electricity lines, blowing away tin roofs, and severely disrupting communication networks in several areas.
Maichhara under the BC Nagar block has emerged as one of the worst-affected regions. Several rural households in the area have reported partial to complete damage to their homes. The storm also led to the collapse of electricity poles, leaving large stretches without power for hours. In addition, fallen trees blocked key roads, bringing vehicular movement to a halt and isolating some localities.
In response to the situation, District Magistrate and Collector Mohammad Sajjad P., along with Belonia Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debjyoti Roy and Additional SDM Swaroop Pal, visited the affected areas to take stock of the damage. Leading a high-level administrative team, the officials interacted with residents, assessed the scale of destruction, and issued immediate directions to concerned departments for prompt action.
Relief and restoration measures have been initiated on a war footing. Emergency assistance is being provided to affected families, with distribution of essential supplies already underway. The administration has assured that rehabilitation support will be extended to those who have suffered losses.
Authorities have also prioritized clearing of blocked roads and restoration of electricity to ensure a return to normalcy at the earliest. Teams have been deployed to remove fallen trees, repair damaged infrastructure, and strengthen safety measures in vulnerable areas.
Belonia SDM Debjyoti Roy emphasized that the administration is fully committed to addressing the crisis. “Ensuring people’s safety and restoring normal life is our foremost priority,” he said, assuring residents of all necessary support.
As adverse weather conditions persist, officials continue to remain on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and coordinating response efforts to minimize further damage and safeguard lives and property.
