Agartala, April 20: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today strongly advocated for the implementation of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ policy, stating that it would empower voters, conserve resources, and facilitate smoother governance. He said frequent elections disrupt development, drain public funds, and disturb daily life.
Speaking at a discussion organized by the BJP Tripura Pradesh Legal Cell at Sukanta Academy in Agartala, Dr. Saha emphasized that the initiative aims to streamline the democratic process, making it more efficient and development-oriented. “If One Nation, One Election is implemented, voters can exercise their rights more effectively without the repeated disruptions caused by continuous elections,” he said.
Dr. Saha praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and vision in introducing this reform in Parliament. Highlighting past decisions like the abolition of Triple Talaq and the recent Waqf Amendment Act 2025, he said PM Modi delivers on bold reforms despite criticism. “There were concerns that these steps would cause unrest, but the nation accepted them peacefully. PM Modi is a true leader, much like Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” he added.
The Chief Minister also criticized the misuse of Waqf lands and applauded the amendment that seeks to bring transparency. He mentioned the changes in criminal laws allowing any citizen to file an FIR at any police station as another step towards a more citizen-friendly system.
Dr. Saha stressed that simultaneous elections would save time, reduce manpower deployment—particularly from the education sector—and ensure uninterrupted development and educational activities.
BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, BJP Vice President Subal Bhowmik, and social worker Dr. Ashok Sinha also attended the event, lending their support to the initiative.
