Agartala, May 4, 2025:
In a landmark development for Tripura’s transport and trade sectors, the Parcel Cargo Express train commenced its maiden journey from Agartala Railway Station on Sunday. This initiative marks a significant boost for local commerce, offering an efficient, cost-effective means of transporting goods from Agartala to major commercial hubs including Kolkata, Guwahati, and Delhi.
The newly launched service aims to revolutionize goods transportation in the region, particularly benefiting farmers, artisans, e-commerce businesses, and small-scale entrepreneurs. Commodities such as agricultural produce, bamboo products, handicrafts, and cottage industry items will now reach broader markets more quickly and at lower shipping costs.
Introduced under Indian Railways’ ambitious ‘Gati Shakti’ mission, the Parcel Cargo Express is part of a national strategy to enhance cargo movement efficiency and improve connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of India. The initiative is expected to lead to the development of dedicated logistics hubs and provide a vital link for Tripura’s exporters to tap into national supply chains.
According to railway officials, the service could be expanded in frequency and reach depending on public demand and cargo volume. This expansion could further open up opportunities for regional producers whose products previously faced logistical challenges in reaching competitive markets.
The launch has generated optimism among Tripura’s business community. Many local producers, especially those involved in perishable goods and handcrafted items, see the service as a game-changer that could help them fetch better prices and significantly scale up operations.
By connecting Tripura more effectively with national trade networks, the Parcel Cargo Express is set to play a pivotal role in boosting the state’s economic growth and empowering local industries.
