Kolkata, August 6:
The grieving parents of the R.G. Kar Medical College rape and murder victim left for New Delhi on Wednesday for a two-day visit, seeking intervention from top central authorities over the delayed investigation into their daughter’s tragic death. They are scheduled to meet Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood and have also sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking to the media before departure, the victim’s father expressed frustration over the slow progress of the CBI probe. “We are going to meet the CBI Director and our counsel in the Supreme Court, Karuna Nandi. There is a strong possibility of meeting the Home Minister tomorrow, and we hope to press for a supplementary chargesheet against those involved in the broader conspiracy behind our daughter’s murder,” he said.

The family has voiced dissatisfaction with the pace and scope of the CBI’s investigation. Though civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, the main accused, has already been sentenced to life imprisonment, the agency has yet to complete its probe into the possible wider conspiracy, even a year after the incident.

The parents also criticised the Kolkata Police for allegedly trying to obstruct their planned “Nabanna Abhijan” rally on August 9—the first anniversary of the crime. “We received a call from Park Street police station questioning why we were putting up banners. Barricades are already being set up to block our march,” the father alleged.

They clarified that the protest rally is non-political, inviting participation from all parties except the ruling Trinamool Congress—without party flags.

The victim’s body was recovered on August 9 last year from a seminar hall within the R.G. Kar hospital premises, triggering statewide outrage and calls for justice.
