New Delhi, June 27: On the occasion of World Pineapple Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a special message celebrating Tripura’s renowned ‘Queen Pineapple’ and highlighting the state’s rich agricultural and horticultural heritage.
The Prime Minister’s message was delivered by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during the inaugural session of the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival held in New Delhi on Saturday.
In his message, Prime Minister Modi praised Tripura for its abundant natural resources and exceptional horticultural produce. Referring to the state’s famous Queen Pineapple, he stated that its distinctive aroma and sweetness are the result of Tripura’s unique climatic and natural conditions, making it a matter of pride for the people of the state.
He further noted that the granting of the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Queen Pineapple stands as a significant recognition of Tripura’s rich agricultural identity and traditional excellence.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the significance of the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival, stating that the event serves as a common platform bringing together farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, researchers, industry leaders and policymakers. According to him, such collaborations can strengthen agricultural value chains, encourage innovation, create wider market access and generate new economic opportunities for local farmers.
Highlighting the Central Government’s developmental vision for the Northeast, PM Modi stated that over the past twelve years, the government has pursued the approach of “Act East, Act Fast and Act First” to unlock the immense potential of the region. He emphasized that the focus has remained on utilizing the Northeast’s natural and cultural strengths to drive prosperity.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for the affection and support of the people of Tripura and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their welfare.
Expressing confidence in the success of the festival, PM Modi said the initiative would enhance the global recognition of Tripura’s Queen Pineapple, attract trade and investment opportunities, and contribute to improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
He also congratulated the Government of Tripura, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and all stakeholders associated with organizing the festival.
