Chandigarh, October 21:
In a major intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar Rural Police, in coordination with central agencies, arrested two operatives of a terror module and recovered a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) along with its launcher, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak, a resident of Wadali in Amritsar, and Aditya alias Adhi, a resident of Bhaga Chhina village in Amritsar. Police also seized a motorcycle used by the duo during the operation.

According to DGP Yadav, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based ISI operative who had sent the weapon consignment across the border via drone. The delivery was reportedly meant for Harpreet Singh, alias Vicky, currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail. “The RPG was intended for a targeted terror attack,” the DGP stated, adding that investigations are ongoing to expose the wider network involved.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Maninder Singh said police acted swiftly on credible intelligence regarding the retrieval of an RPG-22 Netto anti-tank rocket launcher by the accused under Harpreet’s instructions. The suspects were intercepted and arrested before they could deliver the consignment to their intended recipients.

“Efforts are underway to identify those who were supposed to receive the consignment,” the SSP said, adding that Harpreet Singh will be brought from jail on production warrant for further questioning.

A First Information Report (FIR No. 331) dated October 21 has been registered under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Gharinda Police Station in Amritsar Rural.

The operation marks a significant success in Punjab Police’s ongoing crackdown against cross-border terror networks and drone-based arms smuggling.
