Agartala, December 1 — In a significant escalation of tensions within Tripura’s ruling alliance, BJP core committee member and former MP Rebati Tripura launched a scathing attack on Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, branding the One North East campaign a “desperate attempt to regain relevance” ahead of the 2026 TTAADC elections.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters—also attended by MDC Bimal Kanti Chakma, BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma and media in-charge Sunit Sarkar—Rebati alleged that Pradyot was “talking big only because BJP is in power,” accusing him of repeatedly exploiting indigenous sentiments during election seasons.

Rebati claimed that despite receiving substantial financial support from both the Centre and the state, the Tipra Motha-led ADC failed to deliver development, maintain financial discipline, conduct audits, or follow constitutional guidelines. “People deserve to know where the money went. Motha is afraid its corruption will be exposed,” he asserted.

Taking a dig at Pradyot’s shifting political narratives, Rebati said the long-demanded “Tipraland” had disappeared from his agenda, followed by the fading of “Greater Tipraland,” and after fielding 22 Bengali candidates in 2023, he had returned to identity-based politics.

Addressing Pradyot’s latest demand for a tribal Chief Minister in 2028, Rebati termed it an emotional tactic. He pointed out that Tripura previously had tribal Chief Ministers, and even the tribal-run Motha-led ADC failed to meet public expectations. In contrast, he highlighted improvements in tribal welfare under BJP Chief Ministers Biplab Kumar Deb and Dr. Manik Saha.

Rebati reminded that Pradyot’s own family benefitted under BJP rule—his sister is a BJP MP, and his grandfather Maharaja Bir Bikram was nationally honoured by Prime Minister Modi. “He got power because of BJP, yet now behaves as if he alone represents the Tiprasa,” he said.

Rebati accused Motha of misleading people and warned that Pradyot’s remarks were aimed at disturbing the peace established under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership. He claimed that extremism had ended and infrastructure improved under BJP rule, while the ADC under Motha failed even to conduct audits.

On the One North East campaign, Rebati alleged that Pradyot was trying to create unrest after losing political ground. Supporting this, MDC Bimal Kanti Chakma said delays in implementing the 125th Constitutional Amendment were due to objections from the Chief Ministers of Meghalaya and Mizoram, even though Tripura and Assam had already approved it. He added that Pradyot knew this from his participation in the Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting but continued misleading tribal communities.

Rebati concluded that ahead of the 2026 ADC elections, Motha was reviving “conspiracies and emotional slogans” to hide its failures, asserting that the BJP would not allow anyone to disturb the state’s unity and peace.
