Agartala: April 04: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today reiterated the state government’s commitment to preserving the culture and traditions of Tripura’s indigenous people during the inauguration of the Brahmakunda Mela at Simna in Mohanpur Sub-Division, West Tripura. Dr. Saha highlighted the significance of the mela, which is organized twice a year and is a key cultural event for the local communities. He emphasized that the fair is not just a celebration, but a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Tripura, where rituals are performed in remembrance of forefathers.
Dr. Saha also announced that the state government has sanctioned Rs. 14 crore for the beautification and development of the Brahmakunda Mela premises, underlining the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure and attract more visitors. The CM noted that, despite the absence of visitors from Bangladesh due to the current situation, the mela continues to draw large crowds, especially women, reinforcing the deep-rooted cultural connections within the community.
In his speech, Dr. Saha stressed the importance of such events in preserving and promoting the unique cultures of the 19 tribal communities in Tripura. He affirmed that the government is dedicated to restoring and safeguarding the cultural heritage of these communities through various initiatives. The CM also mentioned the goal of making Tripura “Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura,” a vision that reflects unity and progress.
Highlighting the pride Tripura’s people feel for their culture, Dr. Saha shared his commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure to encourage investment and tourism. He emphasized that the government is focused on the welfare of its people, following the example set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in serving the nation. The inauguration was attended by various dignitaries, including Minister Brisketu Debbarma and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar.
