Agartala, May 6: A new chapter began in the governance of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on Wednesday as Runiel Debbarma was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM). Alongside him, Chandra Kumar Jamatia assumed office as an Executive Member (EM). The oath-taking ceremony, held at the Council Bhawan in Khumulwng, marked the start of a fresh leadership phase for the autonomous body that plays a crucial role in administering Tripura’s tribal regions.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Debbarma pledged to lead with sincerity, transparency, and dedication. He underscored that the upliftment and welfare of the Tiprasa community would remain the central focus of his administration. Highlighting immediate priorities, he said the council would work to accelerate development in ADC areas, with emphasis on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and livelihood generation.

At the same time, Debbarma acknowledged the financial constraints faced by the council. He noted that the funds currently allocated by the state government are insufficient to address the growing needs of the tribal population. He assured that efforts would be made to secure additional financial support by appealing to both the Central Government and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. According to him, despite limited resources, the council has continued its work over the past five years, and with renewed leadership, it will intensify efforts to better serve the people.

Debbarma also expressed confidence in his ability to lead effectively, drawing on his experience as a Member of the District Council (MDC) over the past five years. He stated that his administration would aim to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure that development initiatives reach even the most remote and underserved areas.

He further emphasized the importance of collective effort, mentioning support from elected representatives, including MLAs and MDCs, as well as guidance from senior leaders. With Runiel Debbarma at the helm, expectations are high among tribal communities that the new leadership will usher in a period of inclusive growth, improved governance, and renewed attention to the aspirations of the Tiprasa people.
