Dharmanagar, May 9: Political tensions surrounding the mysterious death of Rahul Kishore Roy, the BJP Yuva Morcha Mandal president, intensified further after fresh allegations surfaced on social media, triggering a new controversy in Tripura’s political circles.

The latest row erupted on Friday night after a Facebook post by Biswajit Dey accused Barnali Goswami, wife of newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborty, of attempting to influence the ongoing investigation into Roy’s death.

According to the social media post, despite Chief Minister Manik Saha’s directive for an impartial investigation, “Barnali Goswami’s force” was allegedly exerting pressure on the police administration. The allegations quickly spread online and sparked heated discussions among political supporters and local residents.

Reacting strongly to the accusations, Barnali Goswami visited the Dharmanagar Police Station and submitted a written complaint to Officer-in-Charge Mina Debbarma. In her complaint, Goswami alleged that false, defamatory and malicious propaganda was being deliberately circulated against her on social media platforms with the intention of tarnishing her reputation and social standing.

Speaking to reporters outside the police station, Goswami said she was deeply disturbed by the allegations and accused certain individuals of politicising a tragic incident.

“A tragic incident is being misused for political gain. My name is being deliberately dragged in to insult me,” she said.

Goswami also expressed grief over the death of Rahul Kishore Roy and conveyed condolences to his bereaved family. She demanded strict legal action against those spreading misinformation and defamatory content online.

The controversy has added a fresh political dimension to the already sensitive case, with debates intensifying over the fairness of the investigation as well as the growing role of social media in influencing public perception and political discourse.

The death of Rahul Kishore Roy had earlier sparked protests and demands for a transparent inquiry from various quarters. With the latest allegations and counter-allegations surfacing publicly, political tensions in Dharmanagar continue to escalate.
