In a commendable display of swift investigation, police personnel from West Agartala Police Station successfully recovered stolen bronze idols from the residence of one Shubhankar Kundu, a resident of Road No. 10 in Ramnagar.

Addressing reporters on Sunday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rana Chatterjee said the recovery followed a detailed probe into a theft case reported a few days earlier at the residence of Badal Chakraborty, also from the Ramnagar area. Acting on Chakraborty’s formal complaint, the police promptly registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of four suspects linked to the incident.

“After obtaining police remand for two of the accused, sustained interrogation revealed crucial leads that resulted in the recovery of the stolen bronze idol and two mobile phones from the residence of Shubhankar Kundu,” OC Chatterjee informed.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Debasish Sarkar and Amrit Roy, both residents of the Aaralia area, while efforts are underway to determine the involvement of others connected to the theft. Police sources said the accused may be part of a local network involved in property-related crimes, and further investigation is being conducted to trace any additional stolen items or accomplices.

Authorities have assured that appropriate legal proceedings are being pursued based on the evidence gathered. “The investigation is continuing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out as more facts emerge,” the OC added.

The swift recovery of the stolen idols has been widely appreciated by local residents, who praised the police for their efficiency and prompt action. Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring justice for victims of theft and other property crimes in the city.
