Bishalgarh, Oct 5: The much-anticipated carnival and idol immersion procession organized by the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Administration is set to take place on Saturday evening at Bridge Chowmuhani, with the immersion ceremony scheduled at Dashami Ghat in Bishalgarh’s Noya Para. However, one of the town’s most prominent clubs, Tarun Sangha, has decided not to participate in the event, citing traditional and religious reasons.

Speaking to reporters, Tarun Sangha Secretary Chandan Das said the decision was reached unanimously by the Puja Committee after deliberating on long-held beliefs. “According to our tradition, Saturday is considered inauspicious for idol immersion. We have always avoided sending Goddess Durga and her divine family from our premises on this day,” he explained.

The club, known for its elaborate pandal and artistic idol displays, expressed regret over missing the government-led carnival but emphasized that preserving cultural authenticity and spiritual sentiments took precedence. “We fully respect the administration’s initiative to celebrate the festival collectively, but we cannot go against our age-old custom,” Das added.

Instead, Tarun Sangha will conduct the Visarjan (idol immersion) rituals on Sunday, adhering to their traditional schedule. The club’s decision has sparked discussions among local residents and devotees, with many appreciating their commitment to maintaining religious customs.

Officials from the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Administration have confirmed that all other clubs and Puja committees will proceed with the planned carnival on Saturday evening, featuring music, dance, and processions through the main town before the immersion at Dashami Ghat.

The decision by Tarun Sangha highlights the delicate balance between tradition and modern celebration, reflecting how deeply rooted cultural beliefs continue to shape community participation in Tripura’s grand Durga Puja festivities.
