New Delhi, Nov 7: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) faced massive disruptions on Friday after a technical fault in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system caused widespread delays, affecting more than 400 flights across various airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express.

In a statement on X, IndiGo Airlines said, “The Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) issue impacting ATC operations is still being resolved, and delays may continue across airlines at Delhi and a few airports in the northern region until the system is fully restored.”

An Air India Express spokesperson also confirmed the disruption, noting that the airline operates around 60 domestic flights daily from Terminal 1 and four international services from Terminal 3. “Our teams are actively assisting guests and working closely with authorities to minimise delays,” the spokesperson added.

Earlier, Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory via X, stating, “Due to a technical issue with the ATC system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Teams are working with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve it at the earliest. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates.”

Several passengers reported long waiting times both at the terminals and onboard aircraft. One passenger told IANS that flight crews urged travellers to remain patient while the issue was being addressed.

Earlier this week, IGIA had encountered minor disruptions due to third-party connectivity issues that temporarily affected airline check-in systems. Although that issue was resolved on Wednesday, Friday’s ATC malfunction caused a far greater impact.

Authorities said efforts are ongoing to fully restore normal operations, and passengers have been advised to monitor flight updates and arrive early to avoid further inconvenience.
