Agartala: Mar 17: On Monday, Royal scion and founder of Tipra Motha Party, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarman, voiced his concerns over the alleged violation of the “status quo” promise regarding the Kokborok board exams. Debbarman expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of assistance provided to students who appeared for the exams, and he vowed to seek the intervention of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on this issue.

The controversy stems from an agreement reached last year, following the Roman script debate in which it was decided that students could write their answer sheets in either Bengali or Roman script. Additionally, question papers would be set in Bengali script, and invigilators would be available to assist English Medium students who might struggle with the language. Debbarman stated that while the agreement was mostly adhered to this year, there were instances where invigilators failed to help students, leading some to submit blank answer sheets.

In response to these reports, Debbarman instructed student bodies and Tipra Motha Party MLAs to document the incidents and compile a report. He emphasized that he would present the findings to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to address the issue. Debbarman also called on the Tipra Motha MLAs to raise the matter during the upcoming Assembly Session.

Clarifying the party’s stance, Debbarman made it clear that the Tipra Motha Party is not against the Bengali language, but is committed to ensuring that students from their community receive fair treatment and support in exams. He added that his party would soon identify the schools where students faced issues and would ensure that such problems are rectified in the future.
