Agartala: Mar 21: In a strong statement, a Tiprasa leader and the Royal Scion Pradyut Kishore Deb Barman emphasized the importance of adopting the Roman script for the Kokborok language in Tripura, drawing comparisons with states like Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland. These states, despite their local languages not being included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, have allowed their citizens to read, write, and sit for examinations in Roman script as a state subject. The leader argued that Tripura should follow a similar path, as it would allow Tiprasa students to access education in their native language without barriers.
Pradyot urged national political parties in Tripura to clearly state their position on whether they support Bangla, Devanagari, or Roman script for Kokborok. He called for the Jan Jati Morcha, ST Cell, and GMP to put pressure on these parties, emphasizing that this issue directly affects the future of Tiprasa children. “This is not just about language; it’s about the future of our people,” he asserted.
Pradyot also stressed the need for unity among the Tiprasa community, urging everyone to speak with one voice. He emphasized that only through collective action will the Tiprasa community become a decisive political force in the upcoming 2026/2028 elections. “If we unite and speak out, we will become a factor that cannot be ignored. They will have to listen if they want our votes,” he said.
Finally, Pradyot made it clear that he was speaking not as the founder of TIPRA Motha Party, but as a Tiprasa, urging his people to prioritize their community’s interests above party politics. He concluded by stating that progress would only be made if the Tiprasa people remain united in their fight for recognition and respect for their language and culture.
