Agartala, Dec 29: Tripura Police have registered a case against Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) Chairman Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma (Retd) and his son Meghasis Sharma for allegedly creating a nuisance and breaching the security protocol of a state minister at a private hotel in Agartala while in an inebriated condition.

According to police sources, the incident occurred during a government-related programme at the hotel, where Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was chairing a session. As the event concluded and the minister was about to leave, a vehicle belonging to Colonel Sharma was found parked at the hotel entrance, obstructing the movement of the minister’s convoy.

Security personnel initially requested the driver and later Colonel Sharma to remove the vehicle to allow the convoy to pass. However, Sharma reportedly refused to comply, forcing the minister to wait. In what was described as a goodwill gesture, Minister Chowdhury himself approached the retired army officer and politely requested that the vehicle be moved temporarily.

Eyewitnesses alleged that Colonel Sharma lost his temper during the interaction, hurled verbal abuses at the minister and made objectionable gestures unbecoming of a person holding a constitutional post. The situation soon escalated, prompting intervention by the minister’s personal security guards. A physical scuffle allegedly followed, during which one of the personal guards was reportedly assaulted by Colonel Sharma and his son.

Following the incident, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) Dhurba Nath rushed to the spot and detained the father-son duo. They were subsequently taken to IGM Hospital in Agartala for medical examination.

Police sources confirmed that the medical report established the presence of alcohol in Colonel Sharma’s blood, corroborating allegations that he was under the influence at the time of the incident. A case has been registered against both Colonel Sharma and his son under relevant sections of the law.

Though both accused were later released on bail, police said the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.

Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma, who served in the Indian Army for over three decades, was appointed Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission in July 2023.
