Agartala: Sept 01: In an inspiring initiative, a rural government school in the remote Kumarghat subdivision has achieved something that even many premier private institutions have not attempted—a dedicated space education library.

The East Raitwisa Darlong Para High School now houses a unique facility filled with pictures, books, magazines, and miniature models of astronomers, rockets, and satellite launch pads. The library highlights India’s remarkable journey in space exploration, showcasing milestones such as the Chandrayaan missions, the Mars Orbiter Mission, and the ongoing Solar Mission. To make learning more interactive, video lectures on various space expeditions are screened at intervals, helping students connect with the subject in an engaging way.

Speaking to a national news agency, Block Development Officer (BDO) Sudip Bhowmik said the idea was to provide children in far-flung tribal areas an opportunity to witness India’s achievements in space science. “From the days when rockets were carried on bicycles to the era of human space missions, we want students to experience this extraordinary journey. The purpose is not only to showcase progress but also to spark curiosity and build long-term interest in space education,” he explained.

The library houses more than 100 books and journals on astronomy and astrophysics, along with material on Indian scientists who made significant contributions to space research. Encouragingly, the initiative is drawing interest beyond the school, with students from nearby institutions visiting the facility to explore its resources.

The project was funded under the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarbottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, a scheme of the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Alongside the library, the school has also been upgraded with a smart classroom featuring a digital panel, podium, and modern training furniture—further strengthening its commitment to innovative education.
