Agartala, Nov 24: In a major administrative decision, the Tripura cabinet has approved the regularization of all 13,082 ad-hoc promotions granted to state government employees and officers under the 2021 promotion policy. The move aims to provide long-pending service security and financial clarity to thousands of employees who have been serving in promoted posts for years.

Addressing the media on Monday, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that all ad-hoc promotions— including those of employees who have already retired—will now be treated as “regular,” subject to the final verdict of the Supreme Court. A Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the state government on matters related to promotions is currently pending before the Apex Court.

Chowdhury informed that the state government had earlier set up a high-level committee led by Justice Arindam Lodh, retired Judge of the Tripura High Court, to examine the legal and administrative issues surrounding ad-hoc promotions. The committee meticulously reviewed the matter and submitted a series of recommendations to streamline the process and safeguard employee interests.

Based on Justice Lodh’s recommendations, the cabinet resolved to regularize all ad-hoc promotions granted up to June 2025 under the existing policy. The minister added that employees would receive the full range of financial benefits associated with their promotions—including revised pay and pensionary benefits—from the date their ad-hoc promotions were originally granted in 2021.

The decision is expected to bring significant relief to thousands of state employees who had been uncertain about their service status and retirement benefits due to the pending legal case. Chowdhury emphasized that the move demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting employee welfare while ensuring compliance with legal frameworks.

He reiterated that the state will abide by the final judgment of the Supreme Court, but until then, the cabinet’s decision provides employees with clarity, stability, and long-awaited recognition of their service.
