Agartala, Dec 26 —
The Tripura government on Friday announced a three-day state mourning following the demise of Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen, who passed away in the early hours of the day while undergoing medical treatment in Bengaluru. The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the state government.

According to the notification, Biswabandhu Sen breathed his last at around 3:30 am on December 26 at a private hospital in Bengaluru, where he had been receiving treatment for several months. His mortal remains will be flown to Agartala from Bengaluru on December 27, after which last rites will be performed with full state honours.

As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, state mourning will be observed across Tripura for three days, from December 26 to December 28, both days inclusive. During the period of mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings throughout the state. In addition, no official entertainment programmes will be organised by the state government during this period.

The government has also decided that all state government offices, including those located outside Tripura, public sector undertakings (PSUs), autonomous bodies, and all educational institutions will remain closed on December 26. The move has been taken to allow government employees, students, and the general public to pay their respects to the late Assembly Speaker.

The notification further stated that a state funeral will be accorded to Biswabandhu Sen on December 27 in Agartala. Senior state leaders, government officials, and representatives from various political parties are expected to attend the funeral ceremony.

Biswabandhu Sen was a veteran political leader and a prominent figure in Tripura’s legislative history. His demise has been widely mourned across the political spectrum, with leaders and citizens remembering his contributions to public life and the democratic functioning of the Assembly.

The state government has directed all concerned departments and authorities to take necessary action to ensure that the mourning period and funeral arrangements are conducted in accordance with established protocol and dignity.
