Agartala:
The 112th birth anniversary of renowned Bengali litterateur, poet, and novelist Advaita Mallabarman was solemnly commemorated at Advaita Atithishala in Agartala through a programme organised by the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Government of Tripura. The event paid rich tribute to the legendary author, whose writings continue to inspire generations of readers and scholars.

The programme was attended by Minister Sudhangshu Das, senior government officials, cultural personalities, writers, and admirers of Mallabarman’s literary legacy. As part of the observance, the Minister offered floral tributes at the marble statue of Advaita Mallabarman, paying homage to his enduring contribution to Bengali literature and social thought.

Addressing the gathering, Sudhangshu Das described Advaita Mallabarman as not only a great novelist but also a symbol of courage, truth, and social consciousness. He said Mallabarman’s writings gave voice to the marginalized and reflected the struggles, dignity, and resilience of common people. “Even today, his works remain relevant and meaningful. On his 112th birth anniversary, we pay our deepest respect to his memory. His legacy reminds us of the transformative power of literature in shaping society,” the Minister stated.

Das further emphasized that the Government of Tripura is committed to preserving and promoting the literary works of Advaita Mallabarman so that future generations can understand and appreciate his immense contribution to Bengali literature and culture. He added that observing such anniversaries is a way of reaffirming collective responsibility towards upholding the values of equality, justice, and humanity that Mallabarman passionately portrayed in his writings.

Advaita Mallabarman is best known for his timeless novel Titas Ekti Nadir Naam, a classic that poignantly captures the life, culture, and struggles of the marginalized fishing community along the banks of the river Titas. His literary works remain a powerful chronicle of human suffering, endurance, and hope.

The commemorative programme concluded with reflections on Mallabarman’s life and legacy, underscoring his lasting influence on Bengali literature and social thought.
